If it's Not 'Social' Anymore and Digital is too Impersonal, What is it?

I've gone back to graduate school.  It's a fascinating experience.  Here I am at nearly sixty years old as eager as I was when first going to college.  To say a lot has changed is a major understatement.  I've never met my professors, seen the campus, met my fellow students, or had any personal conversations with anyone other than my academic advisor.  I am learning so much and being challenged in ways that are truly fascinating.  The entire experience is online and the University I'm attending, Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) really has the program figured out.

For so many years I've thought of going back to complete my Master's Degree and one day soon I will have a Master's in Communications with concentrations in Digital Media and Marketing.  WOO HOO, what a ride!  So, what does all of this have to do with the title of my blog post?

If I've read one online article I've read hundreds so far during my studies so far.  There is so much unrest about what to call online digital sites where communications, relationships, and information are developed and shared.  Social media, digital media, digital outlets, social media marketing, social networking, social business, are all terms being used.  "Social" isn't professional enough, "digital" is too cold, and business is too limiting.  So why is it that all of these brilliant business, technical, and marketing minds haven't come up with a name that represents what this does?

How about SoBuDi?  Like so many names of new apps, it's not a traditional name.  It's got a catchy spelling, and it has lots of possibilities for expansion.  Hmmm, I'm fascinated with perspective and want to focus on transformation.  Let's see what happens when I bring this forward!
